Varicocele
- Yerevan, Margaryan Street, 6/1
Varicocele is a condition in which the veins of the cluster plexus in the scrotum are dilated, collecting blood from the testicles. The reasons for the pathology are not known for certain. It is believed that it is caused by the anatomy of venous vessels and valves. Usually varicocele is detected during puberty, most often it is not accompanied by any symptoms. Sometimes there is pain, the testicle decreases and the male reproductive function is disrupted. In this case surgical treatment is indicated.
What is the threat of varicocele?
Often, varicocele does not have symptoms and does not threaten anything. Dilated veins are detected by the surgeon by palpation – groping of scrotum. In some cases, stagnant venous blood causes the testicle to become permanently overheated and exposed to toxic substances that accumulate in the blood. This threatens to disrupt sperm maturation and male infertility.
Is it always necessary to operate on varicocele?
Surgery is not always necessary. It is indicated in the following cases:
- if you have pain in the scrotum
- if the testicle on the side of the lesion is reduced, underdeveloped
- if varicocele leads to infertility
Types of surgeries
The purpose of the surgery is to stop the flow of blood into the dilated veins. There are different types of surgeries, currently used are:
- Microscopic varicocelectomy. A small incision in the groin is made. With the help of a special microscope, the surgeon finds and binds the affected veins. The operation lasts 2-3 hours.
- Laparoscopic varicocelectomy is carried out through punctures in the abdominal wall. This surgery lasts 30-40 minutes.
At SILK Medical Clinic, varicocele operations are performed by experienced surgeons in an operating room fitted with the latest equipment.
